House of Friends’ Cycling Event

red line

On Saturday 1 June 2024, over 20 cyclists took part in the Houses of Friends’ School cycle, a challenging rout that began with the Croob Scenic Loop, which included the formidable Dree Hill. Following refreshments at the coffee dock, they headed to the hills once more, past Aughrim and Croob to the summit of Divis.

It was a pleasure to have so many parents and Old Scholars at the event, and a special mention should go to Year 12 pupil, Thomas Bates, who joined the peloton. Following the steep ascent of the Barnfield Road, the group paused for some photographs of former House Captains Jimmy Kirkwood (Aughrim) and Stewart Barnes (Collin) in front of the hills after which their Houses were named.

The final challenge was the gruelling climb to the mast at Divis in the June sunshine, which was followed by a swift descent back to school. It was great to have so many involved and there are some suggestions that this may become an annual event, so watch this space!
